On April 21,
2025, after the celebration of Easter Sunday for the last time, Pope Francis
passed away due to a stroke that led to heart failure after his lengthy battle
with double pneumonia and other health
issues months before. Throughout his life, Pope Francis followed the teaching of Jesus Christ and showed mercy and love of God
for the poor and underprivileged people. Now, as he followed Christ’s path to go back to our Heavenly Father, there is no better day for him to return to his heavenly home after the Resurrection Day of Jesus Christ.
There was an
interesting prophecy about the 112 Popes in the Catholic Church revealed by
Saint Malachy over eight hundred years ago. In Saint Malachy’s Prophecy of the Popes, Pope Francis would be the 112th Pope and the last Pope before “The End” comes. So, does that prophecy mean that Pope Francis will be the last Pope before the End of the World? What do these prophecies really mean?
Now, as the Peace Messiah for the “Second Coming” has come, here is the answer and explanation
on the Saint Malachy's
prophecy of the 112 Popes in the Catholic Church.
1. The Prophecy of 112 Popes by
Saint Malachy

Saint Malachy was born in 1094 at Armagh, Ireland and died on November 2, 1148. He is an Irish saint who was Archbishop of Armagh in the 12th century. Saint Malachy was known as a spiritual healer and seer who performed some supernatural miracles and saw the vision of 112 Popes in the future. He was canonized in 1190 by Pope Clement III as the first Irish saint to be canonized.
While in Rome in 1139, Saint Malachy received a vision showing him all the Popes from his day to the end of time. He wrote poetic descriptions of each of the pontiffs and presented the complete manuscript to Pope Innocent
II. But at that time, no one understood the prophetic meaning of theses descriptions, so the manuscript was placed into the Vatican Secret Archives and was forgotten until 1590.
In 1590, a Benedictine monk named Arnold de Wyon found the manuscript of Saint Malachy’s Prophecy and was fascinated by its
prophecies of future Popes. He then published Saint Malachy’s Prophecy of the Popes, which consists of 112 short Latin descriptions of future Popes. Each of these descriptions
or mottos identifies one outstanding trait for each of these future popes, beginning with Pope Celestine II, who was elected in 1130. This list stretches all the way from the time of Saint Malachy to the present, including Pope John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and Pope Francis.
These mottos in the prophecies usually refer to a family name, birthplace, a coat-of-arms, or an office held before election to the papacy.
They had been amazingly accurate on the 112 Popes for the past 800 years, almost
900 years. For example, here are the Mottos of the last three Popes in Saint Malachy’s Prophecy of the Popes:

The Motto of the 110th Pope:
"The Labor/Eclipse of the Sun"
- Pope John Paul II (1978-2005)
Pope John Paul
II was born on May 18, 1920, on the day of a solar eclipse, and his funeral also took place on the day of a solar
eclipse on April 8,2005.
Pope John Paul
II worked like the sun circling the earth in his evangelical travels
around the world. And he brought the light of Christ, “the Sun of Righteousness” (Malachi 4:2), to the former Communist countries in Eastern European and the former Soviet Union, which eventually led to the collapse of the Communist countries in Europe and the end of the Cold War.

The Motto of the 111th Pope:
"The Glory of the Olive"
- Pope Benedict XVI (2005-2013)
Pope Benedict XVI took his name from St. Benedict, whose order was known as the
Olivetans.
Before being elected as the Pope in 2005, Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger had been the Dean of the College of Cardinals and the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith since 1981. He has been described as "the main intellectual force in the Church" since the mid-1980s. His teaching and leadership brought the Church back to traditional Catholic doctrine and values.
In the Bible, Jesus also preached his famous sermon, the Olivet Discourse, about the End Time on the Mount of Olives.
“The Glory of the Olive” also referred to the teaching of Jesus Christ.

The Motto of the 112th Pope: Peter the Roman
- Pope Francis (2013 – 2025)
“In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church, there will sit Peter the Roman, who will pasture his sheep in many tribulations, and when these things are finished, the city of seven hills [i.e. Rome] will be destroyed, and the dreadful judge will judge his people. The
End.”

Here is how this motto of prophecy about the Last Pope was fulfilled by Pope Francis.
2. The Fulfillment of the Prophecy of “Petrus Romanus - Peter the Roman”
Jorge Mario Bergoglio was born on 17 December 1936 in Flores, a neighborhood of Buenos Aires in Argentina. His father Mario Jose Bergoglio was an immigrant accountant from Italy in 1929 to escape the fascist rule of Benito Mussolini. His mother Regina Maria Sivori was born in Buenos Aires to a family of northern Italian origin. So Pope Francis does have an Italian or Roman Bloodline.
On March 13 2013, Argentina Archbishop and Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio was elected as the Pope of the Catholic Church. He chose Francis as his papal name in honor of Saint Francis of Assisi.

Saint Francis of Assisi (Italian: Francesco d'Assisi; c. 1181 – 3 October 1226), was an Italian Catholic friar, the founder of the Franciscan Order, and one of the most venerated figures in Christianity. His birth name was Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone, and his father’s name was Pietro di Bernardone dei Moriconi. Both names contained “Pietro”, which means Peter. On 18 June 1939, Pope Pius XII named Francis a joint Patron Saint of Italy along with Catherine of Siena, which made him literally the Patron of Rome. Saint Francis of Assisi did have a very special spiritual connection between Peter and Roman.
Saint Francis of Assisi was known for his charity work for the poor, the rapprochement with the Muslim world, and great love for the animals and natural environment since he considered them all as the creation of God. On 29 November 1979, Pope John Paul II declared Francis the Patron Saint of Ecology, or Patron Saint of Environment and Animals.
After Pope Francis was elected in March 2013 and chose Francis as his papal name, Pope Francis followed the example set by Saint Francis of Assisi and did a great job
as the "People's Pope" by bringing the Church closer to the people, taking care of the poor, advocating for environment preservation and promoting interfaith dialogues with
the people of other faiths.
In the last two thousand years, Pope Francis is the only Pope who chose Francis as his papal name. Therefore, through the spiritual connection with Saint Francis of Assisi, Pope Francis does fulfill Malachy’s prophecy of “Petrus Romanus - Peter the Roman”
with his own Roman bloodline from Italy.
3. The Prophetic Meaning of Peter – From Peter the Apostle to Peter the Roman
Many people may wonder why Peter the Roman will be the last Pope in Malachy’s prophecy. Because Peter the Apostle was the first Pope of the Catholic Church chosen by Jesus Christ, Peter the Roman will be the last Pope before the Messiah of the “Second Coming” comes.
In Chapter 16 of the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” “But what about you?” he asked Peter. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah/Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Then Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in
heaven.” (Matthew 16:13-19)
That’s the authority of Jesus Christ
gave to Peter the Apostle to establish the church on the earth for all Christians. After the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, Peter led other apostles of Christ to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ across the Roman Empire. Peter the Apostle established the first Christian church in Rome, the capital of the Roman Empire, and also the first church in Antioch. Therefore, he was considered as the first bishop of Rome, or
the first Pope of Rome. In this sense, Peter the Apostle was actually the
First "Peter the Roman".
In Saint
Malachy's prophecy of future Popes, the 112th Pope, "Peter the Roman", would be
the "Last Pope" of the Holy Roman Church. He completed the cycle from
Peter the Apostle, the First Pope and the First "Peter the
Roman", to the Last Pope "Peter the Roman". This means that
Pope Francis, the last "Peter the Roman", will be the "Last
Pope" before the "Second Coming" of Messiah for the New
Millennium.
In the Catholic world, the Pope was recognized as the “Vicar of Christ”, which means the "earthly representative of Christ".
The Pope received the Authority of Christ passed through Peter the Apostle up to
now. But in Saint Malachy's prophecy of future Popes, this lineage of Popes will
come to "the End" after the 112th Pope completed his mission on the
earth.
Therefore, this Authority of Pope as the "Vicar of
Christ" from Jesus Christ of the "First Coming"
started with Peter the Apostle, the First "Peter the Roman", and ended
with Pope Francis, the Last "Peter the Roman".
To renew the Authority of Christ to
"reign with Christ a thousand years" (Revelation 20:4), the new
Catholic Pope needs to receive the New Authority from the Messiah of the
"Second Coming", the "Second Child" prophesied in the Bible
(Revelation 12:5).
4. The New
Authority of the Messiah of the "Second Coming" for the New Millennium
Many people anticipated the “Second Coming” of Christ to be a supernatural phenomenon of Christ coming down from the sky with thousands of angels following him. However, that scene only occurred in the spiritual realm, not visible in our physical world.
The real “Second Coming” in our physical world is the birth of the “Second Child” in the Bible, who would be born under the reign of the “Red Dragon” as prophesied in Chapter 12 of the Book of Revelation (Revelation 12:5).
Here is a prophet song about the birth
of this "Second Child" in the Bible, "When
A Child Is Born".

As prophesied in the Book of Revelation,
this "Second Child" in the Bible would have the "Authority of
Messiah" (Revelation 12:10) to "rule all nations with the iron
scepter" (Revelation 12:5 & 19:11-16). This is the Authority of the
Messiah for the "Second Coming" for the New Millennium.
To receive the Authority of Messiah to
"reign with Christ a thousand years", the Catholic Church needs to
learn the New Revelation of the "Eternal Gospel" for "every
nation, tribe, language and people" as prophesied the Book of Revelation
(14:6) and accept the New Millennium Testament of God for the New Millennium of
Peace & Wisdom. (Revelation 20:1-5)
Currently, the
attendance to the Catholic Church is declining worldwide and many splendid
churches in Europe are vacant or even used for commercial or other purposes.
It's time for the Catholic Church to revive the faith in Christ and have a new
Reformation with the New Revelation of the Eternal Gospel from the Messiah of
the "Second Coming" for the New Millennium. The old apostolic lineage will be ended and new apostolic lineage will begin.
"The End" in
Saint Malachy's prophecy is not the "End of the World", but the
End of the old time and the beginning of the New Era of Peace & Wisdom.
5. The Warning of "False
Christs and False Prophets"
Now, after the "Last
Pope" finished his mission on the earth, the Messiah of the "Second
Coming" for the New Millennium has come. However, as prophesied by Jesus
in Matthew 24, there would be the "false Christs and false prophets"
appeared at the "End Time" to "perform great signs and miracles
to deceive even the elect." (Matthew 24:24) So, the main question for all
Christians is how to distinguish the real Messiah of the "Second
Coming" from all the "false Christs and false prophets" who came
before him.
The key to distinguishing
the real Messiah of the "Second Coming" from all the "false
Christs and false prophets" is the Book of Revelation. As stated in
Chapter 5 of the Book of Revelation, "no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it."
Only Christ the "Lamb" had the authority to unseal the seven seals on
the scroll to reveal the visions of prophecy for the next two thousand years.
(Revelation 5:1-12)
In the same way, only the
Messiah of the "Second Coming" has the Divine Authority to unseal the
mystery of the visions on the scroll in Chapter 6 to Chapter 20 of the Book of
Revelation. And the Messiah of the "Second Coming" is that
"Second Child" in the Bible prophesied in the Book of Revelation 12:5
with the "Authority of the Messiah" (Revelation 12:10) and the
"Iron Scepter to rule all the nations." (Revelation 12:5 and 19:15)
Currently, all those
self-claimed "false Christs and false
prophets" have no clue what the visions in the Book of Revelation are
really about, nor are they part of the prophecies in the Book of Revelation.
Only the real Messiah of the "Second Coming" for the New Millennium
has the authority to decode the 2,000-year mystery of the visions in the Book of
Revelation, including the prophecies about himself in the Book of Revelation. That's
the Proof of Authenticity from God to distinguish the real Messiah of the
"Second Coming" from all those self-claimed
"false Christs and false prophets".
